Porter's birth story

So I just realized I never posted anything about Porter's birth story! I have got to get this written down now or I'll forget!

On Thursday, June 7th I went in for my normal weekly checkup. The week before my doctor had talked to me a little bit about being induced so I knew that there was a chance we would be setting an induction date that day if I had not progressed any more. Porter was getting big and she was worried that if I didn't get an induction date set, they'd end up having to do a c-section. At my appointment that day, she measured my belly and had me do one more final ultrasound to try to guesstimate P's weight. (I was 38 weeks at this point). The ultrasound showed that Porter was already weighing in the 9-9.5 lb range (give or take 0.5 lbs). My doctor told me that since he was measuring so large and I hadn't progressed at all, we needed to set a date to induce! Music to my ears! She told me to be at the hospital Monday, June 11th at 6p and that I'd be induced Tuesday morning at 6a!

That was the longest weekend ever! Nate and I were busy getting last minute things finished before it was time to meet our baby boy! Nate took off Monday so we could spend the day together...it was so nice. We showed up to the hospital around 5:30 and got all checked in and I was hooked up to my monitors. Our mom's and my brother came for a quick visit, just to check on us and make sure we didn't need anything. We stayed up talking late Monday night, dreaming about our baby boy. We were so ready to see that sweet face that we had been imagining for months and months!

Monday morning came all too slowly! When 5:30a finally came, they started me on my Pitocin and Epidural. I was only dialated to a 1 at this point so we knew were were in for a looooong day. All of our parents came that morning and we had several visitors throughout the day. I couldn't eat or drink anything after midnight the night before so by lunch time, I was starving and THIRSTY! Ice chips were not cutting it! They did let me have popsicles so that helped some. By 3:00 I was finally dialated to a 3! It seemed like forever before I started progressing at all! At 5:00p I was at a 7 finally and within 30 minutes was at a 9. It was almost go time! I started pushing at 6:30p and at 8:36p, our sweet, perfect baby boy made his way into this world! He was perfect in every way possible! He was born with a large cone head but that mostly went away within the first 24 hours. Porter also had very labored breathing when he was born so as soon as they laid him on my chest, they had to take him away to the nursery so they could make sure nothing serious was wrong. I was so thankful because they did let Nathan carry him out of the room and down to the nursery so he could show him to our parents! During this time, the 12899793 people in the waiting room came and gave Nate and I hugs because visting hours were over at 9 and they had to leave. Most of them came back the next day so they could finally meet Mr. Porter! After about an hour in the nursery, the nurses brought Porter back to Nate and I so we could spend some time with him! We spent a little bit with him alone and then invited our parents and siblings in to officially meet him....to say we are all in love would be an understatement! Nate and I were finally alone with him again around 1a after everyone had left and the nurses were done in our room. We spent some more time with him, then finally went to bed because we were all exhausted!

Wednesday morning we woke up early and our parents came back down to spend some more time with us before the visitors started coming again. There was a steady flow all day long of people waiting to meet this precious baby! Since I had him at 8:36p on Tuesday, they wanted us to stay until Thursday morning instead of us leaving Wednesday night so late since they require you to stay 24 hours. We left the hospital Thursday morning around 1p....daddy drove soooo slow on the way home I didn't think we would ever make it! What a good daddy he is! Once we got home, we spent all afternoon staring at Porter, wondering how in the world we were ever so blessed with such a perfect, healthy baby boy....and we have wondered the same thing everyday since then too!!!

2 Months Old!

Porter,
You are 2 months old today! Where has time gone? Some things to remember about month 2....

- We don't have your 2 month check-up until next Tuesday but if I had to guess, I'd say you were over 12 lbs! You are a big boy! (I'll make sure to update next week when I have your exact weight)
- Daddy and I also attempted to measure you one day and we think you are about 24 in. long now.
- You are still in size 1 diapers but you are about to out grow them. I think once we finish the box we are on, we will switch you over to size 2's.
- You are still fitting into your 0-3 month onsies (barely!) but you are mostly in 3-6 month onesies. You are mainly in these for the length. Your pants are still 0-3 month....you are loooooong and skinny!
- You're still sleeping in your bassinet in mommy and daddy's bedroom. We just aren't ready to send you to your own crib yet!
- You usually still wake up about 1 time per night although these last 2 nights, all you've wanted to do is play and eat. Mommy is sleepy but I sure love that little smile at 3 in the morning...that makes it all worth it!
- We usually have you to sleep around 9-9:30p. Our routine is bath, bottle, bed.
- You started daycare this month. Mommy went back to work when you were 7.5 weeks old. You are doing so good and all of the teachers brag on you every day! This makes mommy and daddy so happy! We still don't love sending you every day but we realize that at this time in life, we just have to do it. The fact that they love you so much makes it that much easier! I think it is harder on mommy than it is you any way ;)
- I went to visit you at lunch one day and you were rocking in your rocking chair "talking" to your teacher. When you saw me, you started crying and as soon as I picked you up you were so happy and fell asleep shortly after! I think that is when I finally realized that you know who I am...made my day!
- Your social security card came in the mail this month so you now have a social security number! Of course, they spelled your name "Avery" instead of "Avey" so mommy is having to send it back.....this will happen to you for the rest of your life bubba so you'll just have to get used to it!
- Lately, when mommy gets ready in the morning, you will sit in your little rocker and "talk" to me. You have started trying to laugh and its hilarious! I think it frustrates you when you can't get the sound out like you'd like...sometimes it makes you cry for a minute if you can't figure it out. It is too cute!

Sweet baby boy, you have stolen mine and your daddy's hearts. We are just plain crazy about you. You are growing so much and it just doesn't seem possible that you are 2 months old aready. We are loving watching your little personality start to show and so look forward to watching it develop more! We love you to the moon and back, Porter Lee!

Love, Mommy and Daddy

Back to reality and Newborn pictures

Last Wednesday was my first day back to work (hence, the lack of blogging). I will say, it has been a pretty rough transition! Nate and I dropped Porter off at day care together last Wednesday and it was hard on both of us....me because I was not going to have my baby boy with me all day like I have because used and. Nate said it was hard on him because up until this point, he hadn't really worried about Porter throughout the day because he was with me. Now he was going to be with people we hardly knew. Luckily, my manager had me come in at 7:30a all last week (I changed my hours to 6:30-4:30 so I can get home to my boys sooner) and let me leave at 2:00p so I could get to Porter quicker. Boy was I thankful for that! It definetly made last week a little more bearable. The best part was, day care said Porter was fantastic for them and that he was the best baby! This was music to momma's ears! I knew he would be great and that it would be harder on me than it would be on him, but I just couldn't help but worry all day long that he would be fussy or sad that mommy wasn't with him :).....yea right! He loves it! His teachers are great and have been great to work with. They send me pictures and texts throughout the day so it honestly helps the day go by SO much faster!

Also, I have been meaning to post some of Porter's newborn pictures and just haven't had the time yet. The first few were taken by Myra Wyke and she did a great job! Porter was just not feeling good that day and had pooped and spit up ALL over mommy, so we called it quits early! She literally is the most patient person I know because Porter was crying and not happy the whole time (this is why I knew he didn't feel good because he is such a happy baby usually!) It was definetly a an interesting time! So since we didn't get many pictures that time, I messaged our friend Becca Smith and asked if she'd mind taking a few of Porter with Nathan and I so we'd have more of him as a newborn. She is working on her portfolio and wants to do photography more in the future so she happily agreed and let me tell you, she did GREAT! She only took 900 pictures of him ;)

BIG TIME picture overload....Enjoy!
