What's in a name?

Today is a special day to my family and I. No, there it is not anyones birthday or wedding anniversary....it is actually the day that my Papa Porter went home to be with Jesus 3 years ago. This is the day 3 years ago that my family changed forever. Papa was our families rock as I imagine most papa's are, so when he was gone, our family had to learn to function without him. Not an easy task. He was the person we all looked forward to seeing most at Christmas dinner or our million family cookouts... So once he wasn't there anymore, it was like we had a big missing piece to our family puzzle. These last 3 years have been hard for my family but we will never forget our sweet, sweet Papa. We still share our greatest memories of Papa or talk about how we miss his "eye sugars", but we know that one day soon we will see him again and I can't wait!

This year I got to do something really special. I got to name my precious baby boy after my sweet Papa Porter. I want his legacy to live on and his great grand kiddos to know all about him and the great man he was. What better way than to be able to pass down his name?

(Mom, Papa, me and Nate at decoration in May 2009. This was the last decoration Papa was able to go to and I'm so glad we got to go hear his funny stories about him growing up. He was SO proud of his redneck ponchos he made for him and Nate!)

Statement Necklace

I got on GroopDealz today and there is an awesome deal on a very cute necklace! If you are a member, you should go check it out...if you aren't a member, you should become one! Below is the link to the Necklace...hopefully it works since this post is from my phone. I'll also attach a picture below so you can see just how cute it is! Best part about it, it comes in 12 different colors! If it were up to me, I'd order one of each...not sure the hubs would like that though! It was a tough call because the yellow, black and turquoise were all cute, but I decided to go with the turquoise...which would you pick?

(like I said, not a great picture, but you can at least see the necklace options. I'm not sure how long the deal lasts either so get yours before it's over!!)

Mr. Smiles

I don't really have much to blog about today but I had to share a picture of this precious boy that has seriously stolen our hearts!

Happy Anniversary!

Today is my Mom and Dad's 24th anniversary!! Porter and I met them for lunch today to celebrate!

Happy anniversary Mom and Dad! Nathan and I look up to you both so much and hope that our marriage can be just as strong and happy as yours when we are celebrating 24 years together! Thank you for being such great examples for Dalton and I growing up and for showing us what unconditional love is. We love you too the moon and back!

Fun Saturday!

We had a very fun day today! Nate took his younger cousin Brad fishing so I decided to meet up with my Mom and Aunt Nini for breakfast at Panera! The boys don't like Panera much so mom and I go there every chance we get! After we finished breakfast, we headed to the Bentonville Square to walk around with Porter for a bit. If you havent been up there on a Saturday morning to their Farmer's Market you should go...they have lots of fun things to look at. Porter even got to put his piggies in the fountain with Grandmama for the first time! After we left the square, mom and I stopped in our FAVORITE shop, The Perfect Choice, to see Mrs. Gwen. She hadn't met Porter yet so we took him up to meet her! We decided after that to go visit my Memaw and run to lunch with her. We decided on Mama Z's! After dropping Memaw back off after lunch, we headed home and are now having a movie night with Daddy! What a great Saturday we have had!

Tomorrow is decoration with Nate's family and then we are going to supper with our best friends Maranda, Nick and Miss Bela! Hope you are all having a good weekend!

(I know this post is boring but I have GOT to get better at blogging about our daily life so I can look back on these posts in a few years and remember what we were up to.)

1 month old!

Porter, you are one month old today! Some things to remember about your first month...
- You were up to 9 lbs at your 1 week dr. Appointment! Your daddy and I tried to weigh you on our scale and if it's right, you are closer to 11 lbs now!
- You are wearing size 1 diapers (Pampers only, you are too big for size 1 in the other brands!)
- You are wearing size 0-3 month clothes mostly, although you did fit into a few size 3-6 month onsies this week!
- We made the switch to formula last week and you are LOVING it...you kept spitting up after mommy would feed you and I couldn't figure out what I was eating that made you sick. We tried some formula and you loved it and have kept it down well.
- You were a little jaundice at first but it wasn't anything a little sunlight didn't help
- You are sleeping in your bassinet next to mommy and daddy's bed. You are a grunter so I hear all of your little noises!
- You usually wake up 1-2 times per night to feed (usually around 2:30a and 5:30a)
- You did sleep all through the night for mommy and daddy the first night we had you on formula! We were so excited!
- We usually have you to sleep around 10p
- You are such a happy baby! You don't fuss unless you are hungry, getting you diaper changed (sometimes) and bath time!
- We have spoiled you too much so you don't really like being put down...you always want mommy to hold you (which is ok with me!)
- You don't really like your paci much. We have tried to give it to you a couple of times and you usually take it for a minute than spit it out.
- The first night you were born, you held your head up and looked around! You have since then been learning head and neck control! It's amazing to us how much strength you already have for a 1 month old!
- You love your hands. They are always up by your face. You play with them all the time! You even sleep with your arms up above your head too...you get that from mommy!
- You got to celebrate your first 4th of July with us which just so happens to be mommy's favorite holiday! You were so cute in your red, white and blue!
- Your grandparents are CRAZY about you...I don't mean a little either...they think that you hung the moon and none of them can go long without coming to see you! We have had more company this past month than we ever have!

Precious Porter, I can't believe an entire month has gone by with you already! It seems like we were just at the hospital meeting you! You have blessed our family in so many ways and I can't wait to watch the little man you grow in to! We love you to the moon and back baby boy!
